Cabot circus has long been known as the shopping destination of the South West. With it's multiple department stores such as House of Fraser and Harvey Nichols to high street giants Topshop, New Look and All Saints, as well as a wide range of independent stores, Cabot Circus is definitely a shopping heaven for even the most devoted fashionistas.
However, this weekend Cabot Circus went that extra step to bring shoppers the Ultimate Fashion weekender. Spread over two days, the fashion weekender includes free fashion shows with TV's favourite stylist Gok Wan, as well as goodie bags and a range of store discounts.
Today, FYI BLOG was lucky enough to sit front row at one of the Gok Hosted shows, which showcases the latest trends for this season.
After kicking off with a introduction from Gok, it goes without saying copious amounts of screaming was evolved, the show started with a decadent themed scene with clothes from Ted Baker. A mixture of autumnal colours, including purples and varying shades of grey, the clothes featured metallic detailing and naturalistic prints heavily. Metallic is going to be a big trend this season and could well follow through to Spring/Summer (metallics were seen at many London Fashion Week shows last week including Paul Costello and Felder Felder). If the idea of wearing block metallic doesn't appeal to you however, you can always add some metallic influences within your outfit through accessories and jewellery.
Holmes London was the title of the next scene and before I go into that let me just tell you one thing. If your going to buy a coat this season, make it camel. Camel coats are HUGE this season and have been seen all over the catwalks from Milan to London so it's definitely worth investing in a good quality one to see you through the season.
Camel coats aren't the only way you can stay warm this season however. As seen on the catwalk today, quilting is another way in which the quintessential british style is coming through this season.
Scene 3 brought a selection of Chanel inspired outfits from high street giants French Connection. A sea of grey, black and white, models donned chunky knits, stripes and berets. But perhaps the most important garment of the scene was the cape. Outwear has taken a new form this season with the development of the cape. Now before you begin envisaging batman and robin style characters, let me assure you, capes are definitely more chic than geek this season and so if you're looking for a fashion forward way of keeping warm the cape is definitely an option you should consider.
Scene 4 saw classic preppy style mixed with a slightly more sophisticated edge. One of my keys tips for guys this season is dressing smart casual. When you're not sure whether you should be dressing smart or casual, dress both. Smarten up a casual look by wearing black shoes with chinos and a jacket or jumper draped over the shoulders to add an element of sophistication.
Scene 5 was awash with trends but two of my favourite were sheer and high waisted. Sheer has been doing the fashion rounds for a while now and it's definitely still going strong for this season. If your opting for sheer this season, however, just make sure your underwear is more Victoria's Secret and less Bridget Jones! However, if baring all in a transparent top doesn't sound like your idea of fun, high waisted trousers and shorts are one trend that everyone can get any with.
Everyone knows that the British winter weather isn't the most appealing in the world and so the penultimate show included chunky knits from Fat Face to keep you nice and toasty this winter. If however, on the off chance the sun actually does make an appearance (wishful thinking, I know), team chunky knits with rolled up chinos for a look that is practical as well as stylish.
Last, but certainly not least, was one of my favourite high street brands Reiss. I recently discovered my love for Reiss when I attended their London Fashion week pre party last week and they had some great pieces in today's show. One of the key themes that caught my eye was definitely the leather trends. Whether it's leather shorts, trousers, dresses or jackets, leather is everywhere at the moment. For an option which is more fashion forward, don't be afraid to experiment and opt for leather shorts or a leather dress rather than the typical leather jacket as it will definitely get you noticed for all the right reasons.
So, for a day full of Gok, goodies and most importantly fashion, head on over to Cabot Circus this weekend – you certainly won't be disappointed.
